In order to test the strength of the straw and the paper, we placed two tables next to each other, varying the span of the crack in between said pair of tables, as well as varying the weight hanging off the straw. At first, we started with a quarter pound, with a one inch span between the two tables, laying the straw across the gap, and placing the weight hanging off the straw. We recorded how well the straw held up the weight, then increased the span between the tables to two inches. We then repeated the test, and recorded how well the straw held the weight. We would replace the straw with a new one after every test, in order to make sure that the straw wasn't weakened from previous test. We increased the span up to 6 inches, in one inch increments, recording how well the straw held the weight. After the straw finaly collapsed and fell through the gap, we put a half pound weight on the straw and repeated the tests, increasing the span accordingly.

We then made a paper roll with a diameter of one and a half inches, and used that for the next test, during which we found the strength of said roll of paper. We lowered the weight to a quater pound again, and started at a span of one inch. We incrased the span in one inch increments up to eight inches. and recorded the results. We repeated this process with a half, three quarter, and one pound.
